Richard Branson acquired the company and changed its name. The first flight took off from London Gatwick to Newark on June 22, 1984. The airline is part of the Virgin Group, which owns 51% of it. Delta Air Lines holds a 49% stake in the airline. Virgin Atlantic mainly serves international destinations in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Its main hubs are at London Heathrow and Manchester Airport.
