ABOUT
Tourism Australia is responsible for promoting Australia as a premier destination for both leisure and business travel. Established in 2004, it merged four former tourism bodies, including the Australian Tourist Commission. The agency, part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, employs about 198 staff, including overseas.
Its main objectives are to encourage both international and domestic travel to Australia, support a sustainable tourism industry, and maximize the economic benefits from tourism. The agency actively implements the national strategy, THRIVE 2030, which aims to restore and grow visitor economy spending to $230 billion by 2030, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
