ABOUT

Secret Atlas is a boutique polar expedition cruise company that pioneered “expedition micro cruises,” offering intimate, low-impact voyages to the Arctic and Antarctic for small groups of travelers. Founded in 2019 by explorers Michele D’Agostino and Andy Marsh, the company was created to give guests access to remote destinations without the crowds typical of large ships. It emphasizes authentic adventure, small group sizes, and a clear commitment to sustainability and connection with nature.

Operations centre on polar regions including Svalbard and Greenland in the Arctic, and Antarctica and South Georgia Island in the Southern Ocean. Modern, ice-strengthened vessels such as MV Vikingfjord and Polar Athena are designed for comfort and environmental responsibility. Guests can expect en-suite cabins, observation lounges, hot tubs, and technology that reduces emissions. Itineraries often include Zodiac landings, photography-focused outings, guided wildlife viewing, and chartered fly-cruises over the Drake Passage for faster access to Antarctica.

Secret Atlas’s philosophy is “by explorers, for explorers.” The micro-expedition approach minimizes environmental impact and maximizes guest experience through flexibility, expert leadership, and deeper immersion in landscapes and wildlife. Trips are led by experienced naturalists, marine biologists, photographers, and polar guides, with a guest-to-guide ratio as low as 6:1. The company supports host communities by hiring local guides and applies clean ship technologies to further reduce its footprint. It also offers customized private yacht-style voyages that can include scientific or educational elements.

Recognized as a leader in slow travel, Secret Atlas redefines luxury through intimacy, sustainability, and authentic exploration rather than size or opulence. The vision for the future is measured growth rooted in purpose-driven expeditions. Plans include exploring undertraveled river regions while retaining small group sizes and a strong environmental focus. The goal is to continue delivering meaningful polar experiences that are both responsible and deeply rewarding.
