ABOUT
The Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority (PNGTPA) is a government agency responsible for promoting and developing Papua New Guinea as a global travel destination. Established in 1993 and headquartered in Port Moresby, the PNGTPA is tasked with marketing the country's tourism industry, supporting sustainable tourism growth, and improving tourism infrastructure and products. Its main objectives are to increase visitor numbers, length of stay, and visitor spending; expand tourism offerings and accommodations; and minimize negative impacts on Papua New Guinea’s culture and environment.
The Authority prioritizes niche and special interest visitors over mass travel to protect Papua New Guinea’s biodiversity, unique cultures, and heritage. It collaborates with stakeholders and local communities to ensure activities are sustainable and inclusive. As a member of organizations such as the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the Pacific Asia Travel Association, and the Pacific Tourism Organization, PNGTPA also gains international support for its global marketing efforts.
