Helsinki Airport, also known as Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL), is the main international airport serving Helsinki, Finland, and its metropolitan area. It is located in the city of Vantaa, about 17 km (10.6 miles) north of Helsinki's city center. It covers 1,800 hectares and has three runways.
It is the busiest airport in Finland and the fourth busiest in the Nordic countries, handling approximately 15.3 million passengers in 2023, with about 88% being international travelers. It serves as a major transit gateway between Europe and Asia and is a hub for Finnair as well as several other airlines.
The airport is known for its compact and efficient layout, with all gates and services located under one roof, making connections quick and smooth. Offering a wide range of services—including restaurants, shops, saunas, business centers, and free Wi-Fi—the facility also features extensive parking and convenient connections to Helsinki by train, bus, taxi, and shuttle.
