Founded in December 1945 and operating since April 1946, the airline is wholly owned by the Ethiopian government through Ethiopian Airlines Group. Its main hub is Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, supported by secondary hubs in Togo and Malawi. From this network, Ethiopian Airlines serves more than 150 passenger destinations worldwide, including over 60 cities across Africa, giving it the most extensive route network on the continent.
The airline operates one of Africa’s youngest and most modern fleets, featuring Boeing 737, 777, and 787 Dreamliner aircraft, Airbus A350s, and dedicated cargo freighters such as the Boeing 777F and 767F. Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics is the largest cargo operator in Africa, serving about 70 dedicated cargo destinations. A member of Star Alliance since 2011, the airline follows its Vision 2035 strategy, building on the early success of Vision 2025 to expand its multi-hub pan-African model. Known for consistent profitability, it has earned Skytrax 4-Star Airline status and multiple awards recognizing it as Africa’s leading airline.
