Cairo International Airport (CAI) is in the Heliopolis area, about 15 kilometers northeast of downtown Cairo. It is the largest and busiest airport in Egypt and the country’s main international gateway. The airport covers about 37 square kilometers. It has three parallel runways that can handle large aircraft like the Airbus A380. CAI is a major hub for Egyptair, Nile Air, and many international airlines. It is the second busiest airport in Africa by passenger numbers.
