Adora Cruises is a China-focused ocean cruise line that operates mainly from Chinese ports, offering short and medium-length itineraries to nearby Asian destinations such as Japan and South Korea. Established as a joint venture between Carnival Corporation and major Chinese state-backed partners, the company was created to build a large, domestically oriented cruise brand for the Chinese market. Headquartered in China, Adora Cruises positions itself as a mainstream, family-friendly brand that provides contemporary cruise experiences tailored to Chinese travelers, featuring Chinese-language service along with culturally familiar entertainment and dining. By deploying ships year-round from Chinese homeports, rather than following a seasonal schedule, the line has grown into one of the leading operators in the Chinese cruise market by passenger capacity.
The Adora Cruises fleet combines large ocean-going ships that originated with Costa Cruises and newly constructed, Chinese-built vessels. Core ships include Adora Mediterranea, formerly known as Costa Mediterranea, and Adora Magic City, a Vista-class ship recognized as the first large cruise liner built in China. Adora Magic City entered commercial service on 1 January 2024 and represents a key milestone in the development of China’s domestic cruise shipbuilding capabilities. Through these vessels, Adora Cruises aims to offer a modern, comfortable, and culturally attuned cruise experience that supports the continued growth of China’s cruise industry.
