The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) operates under the Ministry of Economics as the national institution responsible for investment promotion, export development, and tourism development. Founded in 1993, the agency later expanded its mandate to include tourism, bringing business internationalization and destination promotion together within one organization.
Through its Tourism Department, LIAA functions as the Latvian Tourism Board and leads destination promotion in international markets. The department’s goal is to develop Latvian tourism products and services, increase their competitiveness, and ensure Latvia is internationally recognizable as an attractive tourism destination. The agency works closely with tourism operators to increase visibility, support innovation, and encourage sustainable sector growth. Its activities include international marketing campaigns, familiarization visits, and cooperation initiatives with global partners. Latvia’s official tourism portal is latvia.travel.
In addition, LIAA acts as a central contact point for foreign companies and investors interested in Latvia. It provides practical support for establishing operations, maintains up-to-date information on local enterprises, investment projects, and real estate opportunities, and cooperates with public partners to ensure a smooth and reliable market entry process.
