Great Lakes Safaris is a Ugandan-owned safari operator founded in 2001 by Amos Wekesa. It designs tailor-made and group safaris across East Africa, with a strong presence in Uganda and Rwanda. The company is recognized as a leading operator in the region, valued for its commitment to excellence, authenticity, sustainability, and meaningful community engagement.

Born from a mission to showcase the beauty of Africa’s Great Lakes region, Great Lakes Safaris creates customized journeys that blend wildlife encounters, cultural immersion, and relaxation. Guests can enjoy gorilla trekking, classic game safaris, birdwatching, cultural tours, and mountain climbing. Operations are centered in Uganda and Rwanda, with expert planning that ensures responsible tourism and memorable experiences.

Great Lakes Safaris also manages a collection of boutique properties in prime national parks, including Primate Lodge Kibale in Kibale National Park and Elephant Plains Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
