Copa Airlines is the flag carrier of Panama, headquartered in Panama City, with its main hub at Tocumen International Airport, widely known as the Hub of the Americas. Founded in 1947 as Compañía Panameña de Aviación, S.A., the airline began as Panama’s national carrier serving domestic routes before growing into a major regional connector. Today, Copa operates a hub-and-spoke network designed to efficiently link North, Central, and South America, as well as parts of the Caribbean, through Panama City.
The airline serves over 80 destinations across over 30 countries, with all Canada and U.S. routes connecting through its Panama hub. Copa Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, providing customers with access to a global partner network and shared frequent-flyer benefits. It is part of Copa Holdings, which also includes Copa Airlines Colombia and the low-cost carrier Wingo. The fleet is centered on Boeing 737 NG and MAX aircraft, complemented by Embraer 190 jets, well suited for short- and medium-haul operations.
Onboard, Copa offers business class and economy seating, with an Economy Extra option on many aircraft that provides additional legroom and enhanced amenities. Complimentary meals and alcoholic beverages are typically included on medium- and long-haul international flights, even in economy class. Eligible travelers have access to Copa Club lounges, co-branded with United, primarily at Panama City and select regional airports. Copa also promotes a Panama Stopover program, allowing passengers to add a multi-day stay in Panama City on qualifying itineraries, making it easy to combine travel across the Americas with a visit to Panama.
