Arkia (IZ) is Israel’s second-largest airline, operating domestic and international flights with its main base at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. Founded in 1949 as Israel Inland Airlines, the carrier was created to connect the new state, with an early focus on routes to Eilat. It adopted the name Arkia in the 1950s and steadily expanded its network and capabilities over the following decades, adding larger aircraft and moving into international charter services, aircraft maintenance, and leisure travel products.
Today, the airline serves more than 30 destinations, with an emphasis on leisure markets in Europe, as well as select routes in Asia and Africa. Its network includes popular cities such as Athens, London, Paris, Dubai, Bangkok, and New York. The fleet consists of Embraer regional jets and Airbus A321 aircraft, with leased wide-body aircraft used on long-haul routes. The airline has expanded its international reach, including direct flights between New York City and Tel Aviv using Airbus A330 aircraft.
